I am taking my boyfriend to D.C for the weekend. What are the best places to visit with just 2 days. Also, best restaurants to check out?

It depends the Museums are free so they are a great value for money. This weekend the city will be packed with Martin Luther King weekend and the inauguration. Outside DC Mount Vernon (George Washingtons home) is a nice place to visit and very educational. almost 5 years ago

I'm torn between Cartagena & Santa Marta and their surrounds?

Cartagena has the Historical old world Johnny depp Pirates of the caribbean feel to it the down side is the venders can be a bit aggressive at times. Santa Marta has nice beaches and is cheaper to stay there. But if you rent Jetskis have a local friend do the negotiations so you dont get the gringo price :) almost 5 years ago

Is it safe for a single female in her 20's who is blonde and gorgeious to travel alone in columbia?

They Have Blonds in Colombia both natural and of the dye variety. I had a friend who is tall 6 foot and Blond (the tall part is what made them know she was not local) was roller blading down the street when a Colombian Man seen her and his knee jerk reaction was to yell out to her Hola Barbie (hello Barbie) She said that was the funniest and most creative cat call she had ever heard in her life. almost 5 years ago

I am looking for feedback regarding traveling to Bogota, Colombia? Does anyone know if it is safe? Would I be taking a risk for going?

Depends where you go for instance like NYC if you go to 5th avenue the crime is low if you go to the Bronx to a poor area the crime chances increse. Bogota is the same in Zona Rosa (like Manhattan) it is expensive but on the cornor near the mall yu will often see a Policeman with a machine gun and a German Sheppard. Her crime is low and I felt safe even walking the streets at 1am. Other Area like Chapinero (Kind of like a flea market area with great shopping adventures I would say it is fun in the daytime and safe but would not do thier by myself after dark. If you use the same advice you would be given when visiting any American or European City you will be fine. If you listen to CNN or other news outlets you will never leave your house. I even met people in South America who said they would never vist the USA because of all the drive by shootings and they would fear for their kids lives because of all the school shootings. (yes it happens here but it is the exception not the reality of everday American life) Same holds true In Colombia almost 5 years ago

    Staying in Bogota Colombia?

If you are in the North In Zona Rosa Near the centro comercial andino and centro comercial atlantis you will find a lot of Artisanos selling stuff on the side walks. Ask around for a artisano named Maria she is around 30 years old and has two daughters (single Mom) If you speak some Spanish tell her you are a Friend of her American Friend Patrick who used to take her to dinner and tell I said she used to get the trucha and Patrick would Pull a face as he dosent like the smell of fish. I would recomend take her to dinner and talk about the culture and America and you will make a friend for life. She taught me a lot of stuff and after I became friends with her I would buy a pizza or 2-3 and sit on the side walk with her and invite the poor artisanos to join in the feast and we would talk and laugh and share stories of our lives. They didnt speak any English for the most part so it forced me to use my Spanish but what a wonderful experiance it was. I hope you can find her and Pass on that I still think of her and her two daughters and wish them the best. If you can find her let me know that she is still well. Thank you for taking the time to read this and enjoy Colombia I miss the country so much I was there in 2005 for four months working and for a week in 2007 and hope to return again soon. almost 5 years ago
