Hi Phil,I'm considering a trip to Kabul for work. Is it safe? Thanks

Yes it's relatively safe in comparison with the southern region. I would expect to not stay at the op end of hoteliers but rather a medium hotel which avoids the possibility of a bombing. I'm sorry it's taken so long I've not checked this app. Have you been if so I'd like to hear where you went and how it was as I'm doing tour. Start in Kabul through the centre Bamiyan and the Lakes of Silence to my favourite Herat then up to Mazar-e-Sharif then via Salang pass back to KBL. I've travelled to lots of hostile zones but Afghanistan is one that I've loved for many years including the time when the Taleban were in power. Pashtunwali was granted on my 2 previous visits and the 3rd was on NWFP east of Peshawar in Gadoon Amazi. Hope this finds you in good health. almost 3 years ago

    Living in Saudi Arabia

Well temperatures reach over 40-45degreesC/104-115degreeF for 6 months of the year it will reach 50-122 but will never be recorded as all work has to stop if it reaches that point. Be sure to take an Abbayah as all women have to wear one. There's Diraiyah surrounding area / Saud Museum near the Diplomatic quarter / Camel Market / Al Baatha Souq / Al Thummairi gate loads of places to eat men only unless they have a backdoor for the Family eating or women cannot enter / Kingdom tower and the new buildings that are visible and has a walk through between the two spires. Mattawa have a specially restrictive law so you might get followed and heavily monitored to visit anywhere you should gain an entry permit. You cannot move from one area to another without written permission from the authorities. Don't expect to be made welcome from the indigenous and poorer demographic avoid Al Suewiti and ask if you need advice from a specialist. almost 3 years ago

Is it advisable/safe for a British (Anglo Saxon) woman to travel to Bahrain alone?

As long as your staying in Bahrain women are allowed to travel alone though not normal. Don't enter Saudi Arabia AKA The Kingdom you'll not be allowed through customs alone. You're unable to travel alone in KSA you can't drive and it depends where you are visiting. I've seen trouble with women alone even in Bahrain but cover up and you can visit Muharraq Manama but don't go elsewhere. Bahrain is a sovereign nation off the East coast of KSA with a causeway to Dammam KSA/ Al Khobar / Dhahran. Please be sure of where you're travelling in the GCC. Bahrain is much more westernised + UAE the most liberal but still a sticky situation. You've come under the umbrella of Saudi so advise where your travelling to and as an experienced and frequent traveller to such places can advise you of the best/worst highlights. almost 3 years ago
