Tips for safe overland travel through Africa.

I'm assuming you're exceptionally well prepared and not just "winging it". So, outside of the normal (pretty high) risks, I see you really needing to be on your guard the further north you go... Ethiopia, Sudan in particular. Depending on your country of residence and where you bought your insurance policy, it may not be effective in those places (and more) because of the level of government travel warning. So check what your home country says about them, and also what your policy says about coverage. For more tips on each country, go to http://www.worldnomads.com/travel-safety/ and plug in each one. I might also see if I can get Ben and Steph, a couple of Nomads we know, and get them to comment, because they've done a lot of travelling in Africa. almost 3 years ago

how safe is a journey through syria and Iraq? kindly advice?

Not safe. You'd have to be a very experienced traveller and have a large support network of trained professionals, a network of known safe houses and the benefit of good intelligence sources to travel safely. Or be extremely lucky. Most foreign nations advise their citizens to not travel there at all. Unless you have specialist insurance you are very unlikely to be covered, which means if you are injured or delayed or have belongings stolen you will be on your own. almost 3 years ago

Are there ATMS in Cambodia and do they link to Australia banks?

Yes and yes. They might be a bit harder to locate in rural areas but in Phnom Penh there are plenty. Only problem - they have hefty fees. $5 a transaction - ouch! Take out plenty each time and remember to keep it safely stashed. Check your World Nomads insurance policy about lost/stolen cash, there are limits. Go to the Help Desk, enter your country of residence and check out what's covered in personal belongings http://service.worldnomads.com/ almost 3 years ago

    Safe? Traveling with girlfriend?

In the hotels and resorts there'll be no problems, but if you're visiting Stone Town or other off-resort destinations it is prudent to observe local customs, and at least make concessions to them. No bikini tops, bare shoulders etc. No need for a full niqab, but a shawl to cover shoulders, and a wrap or skirt that is knee length seems sensible. Travelling from England to bruge by ferry on Friday is it safe

Tracey, Bruges is a generally very safe tourist destination in Belgium. Given what happened in Paris this week, it's impossible to say anywhere is perfectly safe, but given the increased levels of security in Europe now, there's probably never been a safer time to travel. is maldive expensive ?? my budget is 50000INR per person . i m planning to spend honey, oom times over there //

It is deliberately expensive on the island resorts - it was a strategy to keep hippies and "undesirables" away in the 1970's. More recently though the government has allowed low cost tourism and accommodation on the main island. Read more about it here: http://www.worldnomads.com/travel-safety/maldives/ almost 3 years ago
