What can't I miss driving from Sydney to Byron Bay, and once I'm there what do I HAVE to see/do?

There are some really nice beaches all the way up the coast. Port Stephens is the nicest beach near Newcastle. You should arrive in Port Macquarie in time for lunch. If you are not in a hurry, spend a couple of days driving up, escpecially if you like surfing. When you get to Byron you should check out the Arts Factory, this cool backpacker hostel is one of the last true Byron Bay icon's, there is a great bar called Buddha Bar which has cool live music and brews its own beer - a very funky hangout! over 7 years ago

what is the best backpackers in Sydney to stay at? Just looking for good value, fun (meet people), safe, good location to see the sites.

hi Jubran, I would recommend Nomads Westend in Pitt Street, just around the corner from Central station, so very close. Its clean, affordable and they organise some really fun activities. They are also part of the Nomads chain, so if you are traveling in Australia, you can buy a Mad card for just $37 that gets you heaps of discounts and even some free stuff - like meals and drinks! The other Nomads hostels are really good and are located all up the East Coast & in New Zealand - you can get some great bargains! Hope this helps. over 7 years ago

Where can I find a nice beach near Byron Bay?

If main beach (across the road from the beach hotel) is too busy, go to fishheads restaurat on the right hand side and across the groin is a quieter beach that goes for miles, depending on how far you want to walk. This is where the surfbreak called "the wreck" is. But you can walk for miles, and go nudie if you want! The other side of main beach you can walk for 5 minutes and get to the pass, great for learner surfers. Over the headland is Wategoes, million dollar beach front property, but free to use the beach. On the other side of the light house - 5 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk, is cosy corner - further up this beach nudie too! If you are driving, drive south on the Ballina road towards Lennox Heads and about 15 minutes out is the turn off the Broken Head - quiet and peaceful. Going north, head out on the highway and take the Brunswick Heads turn off for an amazing beach that connects back to Byron south - 10kms of great deserted beach. Wonderful rivers and fishing here too! Phew - is that enough information! Plenty of great beaches to choose from here! over 7 years ago
