Is it safe to walk the outskirts of Port Vila at night?

Port Villa is pretty safe & the people are friendly. There are mini-busses that traverse port villa all the time - just flag one down and they will drop you where ever you want to go, much quicker than walking, and much cheaper than a taxi, though you may get a scenic ride as the bus drops everybody else at their doorsteps as well. It's a nice way to see Port Vila as well. I talk about it in my story here: http://journals.worldnomads.com/stowaway/story/2182/Vanuatu/Bus-it about 4 years ago

Is Canyoning in the Blue Mountains cold at this time of year?

Summer is definitely the best time for canyoning, the water is still rather cold then and you will still need a wetsuit - not much sun gets into the canyons to warm you up again once you get cold. Don't go if it's raining (more than a light shower) either, the water level in a narrow canyon can rise very quickly. But it's lots of fun and there are plenty of canyons to choose from in the blue mountains, for all levels of skill and endurance about 6 years ago

What is the best way to get around on Easter Island?

Renting a motor scooter is pretty cheap, and probably the most fun way, the island is small enough that you could do a lap of it in about 2 hours (That is with minimal stopping & looking at sites). A motorscooter sure beats a bike for getting to the village at the top of the volcano. A car is also an option but is probably a bit of overkill unless you have a family, plus a car won't get you up the smaller trails :) http://journals.worldnomads.com/stowaway/photo/626/12320/Chile/My-rented-motor-scooter-at-the-top-of-Rano-Kao-volcano-rim-%28410m%29 There are also minibus tours & plenty of scope for day hikes. It's easy to walking into/around town but it's a very long walk to the sites on the other side of the island. 3 days is probably just enough time to get around & see everything (assuming you are not walking everywhere). Try out the local (only) disco one night for a hoot. http://journals.worldnomads.com/stowaway/story/924/Chile/Easter-Island over 6 years ago

What is the best way to travel from Dublin to the Isle of Man?

Ferry time is about 2hrs 45 mins for a fast boat, and about 4hrs 45 for a slower ferry. Personally i'd take a ferry as it's a nicer trip, & cheaper than flying. there is a bit of comparison info here: http://www.visitisleofman.com/travel/ almost 7 years ago

How does the food in Nepal compare to nepalese restaurants in Australia?

Outside of Kathmandu or Pokhara you're probably best to stick to freshly cooked local food, which is generally quite plain eg: dahl baht. Avoid any foods that may have been in contact with un-boiled water. Western style meals may be on offer but the recipes are often..um.. open to interpretation, so what you actually get on your plate may be a bit of a surprise. Chicken meals are usually fine, as the chicken is often killed just for the meal (will cost more than Dahl baht). Yak can be tasty too. In short, use your common sense, look at what others are eating & how it's prepared, and be careful with you own hygiene. over 7 years ago
