    Hi Robin,
I would suggest, having traveled to Africa on eight different occasions, the combination of what you are looking for is very difficult within Southern or East Africa.

If you want 'safe ' areas to travel solo within Southern or East Africa, then unfortunately, they will be heavily frequented by other travelers. If you are looking for something off the tourist track - then it generally comes with a much higher safety concern.

Some of our passengers like traveling with us as we travel in small groups, yet with the security of added safety and local knowledge of high quality CEOs (Chief Experience Officers). If it is something you would consider check out our site : http://www.gadventures.com/

If that is not 'your thing', and it's not for everyone, then I would suggest that solo travel, off the tourist track in Southern or East Africa, is going to be reasonably difficult and not a region I would encourage you to try such an experience - IMHO.

If anything I would suggest maybe Morocco in Nth Africa or Namibia in the South East may be a better option for what you are looking for. They have less tourists and I believe have less safety concerns. That being said, they may not give you the African experience you are looking for as both offer a vastly different experience to the 'typical' African safari.

Good luck and I hope you get to Africa soon, it's an amazing place.
