While I was travelling around Asia a few years ago I ate some pretty strange things, but I still shied away from certain foods (the baskets full of spiders at Cambodian truck stops are a good example of what I didn't eat...).

What strange things have you tried, and what were they like?

    Tarantula spiders at Snoul in Cambodia

    Cockroaches in Chiang Rai, Thailand

    Deer fetus in Laos (along with all sorts of unknown jungle meat from the forests)

    Ahh awesome! I tried sashimi-style horse (basashi) in Japan but some of that stuff is pretty crazy.

    I've only been to Malaysia and Singapore thus far, so haven't tried all that much that is way, way out there.

    I loved baked stingray though, and also had some supposdly genuine Guilinggao in Kota Kinabalu (the stuff in Australia is usually substituted).

    Also, "interesting" to me doesn't have to involve crazy ingredients. In my opinion the best food which is most likely to tantalize those taste buds is typically the cheapest and obtained from street vendors or hawker stalls. And remember - the dirtier the establishment, the tastier the food! almost 7 years ago

    Hi Jaidev - Monkey's brains are jus like Sheep's brains - just a little bigger. The waiters offered to have the monkey's decapitated (i.e. Raiders of the Lost Ark style) at our table but I didn't think I really wanted that deep an experience.

    I agree with Dan - but instead of the dirtiest, I find those restaurants/ hawker stalls with the longest que's of locals always serve the tastiest food. almost 7 years ago

    Bee larva in Cambodia. Came in the comb that had been wrapped in foil and roasted. Sweet, creamy, and quite tasty. Also, snake wine in Vietnam. about 1 year ago
