    90% you do need a visa, because of Syria is listed with another 5 countries under civil war countries. Please note that if the airline guy that stand on the desk has the word of yes and no. If he allow you to take the flight to Rome then when you arrive to Rome they wont stop you there, they will just let you get in the other flight to go to USA ..so it depends on that guy somehow over 5 years ago
