In a few months I'm going to be traveling through New Zealand, Australia, Bali, India, and possibly Malaysia. I'm trying to figure out what the best option for me is, phone-wise. I own an iPhone 4, and my carrier is AT&T but I'm contemplating on whether or not it's a good idea to bring it (the wifi would be a major plus).
I've read a little about renting phones from your carrier, and what sorts of types there are (GSMs and CDMAs, ect) but I really don't understand it all. Isn't there a way to put a prepaid SIM card on a phone that would let me have minutes in that country? Could I do that in an airport? I'm only looking for a cheap way to make the occasional call and to have a way to make calls in an emergency--not idle chit-chat. Any advice?
