Totally agree with Anna, check it out! Also don't stay in Hotels but stay in hostels as people will go your way and if you like each other you go together. over 7 years ago

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/index.jspa is good for people who are actually on the ground.

An alternative to couchsuring is this one which is UK based : https://www.bedandfed.co.uk/

Are you interested in joining a group tour such as those organised by http://www.exodus.co.uk/, or http://www.explore.co.uk/ ? This would be a way to travel and meet people but you might not like the idea of spending that much time with strangers in such close proximity!

I am happy to meet up for a coffee if you are ever in the Middle East :-) over 7 years ago

    • Thanks, all very helpful information. It looks like couchsurfing is my best bet. ALso, I normally stay in hostels and it is a great way to meet people but I'm currently in India and there don't seem to be many hostels here. But thanks for the answers and I will look into the sites you mentioned. Michael Derksen over 7 years ago
