That's an interesting question and for me it depends on where you are and what you aim to do.
Holidaying in the Scottish Highlands, tramping through Glencoe with the sun shining down on you is simply divine.
Fishing off the pier at Naples, Florida, looking at the gorgeous sea, the wonderfully sandy beach, the sting ray swimming, watching the pelicans scooping up the fish before you can land them - simply heaven.
I hate lying on a beach and can only manage an hour or two before I like to do anything. I dont really like hiking but can do it in moderation.
Stunning beaches, secluded coves, BBQs and watching the world go by.
Craggy mountains, the snow glistening, apres ski - oh yes!

Beach or Mountains ? BOTH are nice. Not sure what 'vacation' means to you but there are many places where you can have BOTH in close walking proximity. Stay up on the hillside - Clean, Cheap & Cheerful - with a view down to the beach is always nice with fewer bugs and cooler.
Right on the beach, too, has it's charms of sounds of the surf, maybe tourists/vendors and sea baths all day. almost 7 years ago
