My partner and I are looking to spend 2-3 weeks somewhere in South East Asia during a stopover in HK.
We will be spending sometime in HK and China but fancy flying somewhere cheap for a couple of weeks.
Challenge - I have already been to a few places in SEA (Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Borneo, Bali & Lombok) so we are looking for somewhere different.
Can anyone recommend somewhere reasonably cheap and beautiful with culture, beaches and national parks/jungles?
We look forward to your suggestions...
hi polly :)
try the philippines. there are several UNESCO heritage sites(banaue rice terraces, tubatahha reefs, puerto princessa subterranean river national park, apo island, vigan, etc.) as well as your pick of beautiful beaches. for the beaches, check out malapascua, sumillion island, siquijor, apo island - the best jump off point for these destinations is dumaguete. manila is very westernized, but the further away from the city you get the more culture you will find. you just have to know where to go. there are many other places to go. coron was the inspiration for the movie "the beach" also called the "last frontier" even by the locals, caramoan islands is where the show "survivor" was shot. marinduque also has some virgin beaches and has not yet been promoted as a tourist spot so it's a good bet. a lot of the places have more to offer other than beaches so be sure to ask the locals. like tiny island of siquijor has waterfalls, caves, herbal forests, dive sites, springs, limestone churches, watch towers and some mysterious folklore intertwined http://bit.ly/aZTrdm about 7 years ago
