I have been hunting through many of the normal spots (Oxford st, King St, TGV, QVB, William St so on...) and have been yet to find much that is not either fairly generic or stupidly expensive. Are there many cool clothing places hidden away around the place? Is there a set of alleys somewhere that I have missed with this kind of thing? Or maybe is there somewhere a bit out of the city (but not too far!) with awesome shopping? Cheers :)

Good luck, agree with above, can't beat Melbourne for shopping. You could try Chinatown though, there are sometimes some pleasant surprises in some of the shopping malls off dixon st. almost 7 years ago

Paddington Markets, Sydney’s oldest community market, is great for spotting up and coming designers. Here you'll find unique and handcrafted clothes and accessories at a reasonable price. Paddington Markets has been a great launch pad for many high profile labels including Dinosaur Designs, Sass & Bide and Zimmermann. Located in the grounds of the heritage listed sandstone Paddington Uniting Church the markets are open every Saturday from 10am-4pm. almost 7 years ago

Go to Newtown - wander down king st from about the intersection of Missenden road onwards towards Enmore road.
I wouldn't say they are hidden away as such, there is alot of choice/style there, the prices can vary quite wildly =) almost 7 years ago
