Ideally less crowded, with clean water and safe swimming.

Lots of nice beaches for swimming in Perth.

Cottesloe is the trendy city beach and is also probably the best in my opinion.

Otherwise you can try Scarborough Beach a little north.

Both are close to city over 7 years ago

My fave beach is Mulallo which is about 20 minutes drive from cbd. Clean, safe, good waves and not as crowded as other beaches. over 7 years ago

    * None of them are really 'crowded' (by European standards anyway).
    * Most of the major ones are patrolled by lifeguards, swim between the red and yellow flags and you'll be safe! ;-)
    * All of them are clean and beautiful

I agree City Beach is good, especially for families, and the life guards patrol every weekend.
It's a 20 min drive from the CBD and easy to find. over 7 years ago

My favourite beach is Cottesloe but Scarborough and City Beach are great as well. You won't really find a bad beach along the metropolitan coastline. over 7 years ago

Cottesloe is the popular beach for tourists to visit and is the trendy beach for 16 - 25 year olds to hang out. Scarborough is great for surfing. Leighton, towards Fremantle, or Hillarys, in the north are great for families with young kids. Really any of the Perth beaches are fantastic but remember to be careful as there are often rips and you can be dumped very easily. Enjoy! over 7 years ago

Perth has some of the best beaches in the world with wide stretches of sand with beautiful clear blue water. The morning is generally the best time to visit the beach as it can get quite windy when the Fremantle Doctor arrives around lunch time.

    Best beaches for children:

    Hillarys Boat Harbour
    Mettams Pool
    Surf Beaches:

    Cable Beach

Marmion Marine Park is a diver's paradise, forming ledges, caves and swim-throughs. They are inhabited by a wonderful array of fish species and colourful invertebrates. Take your goggles and fins and investigate from North Beach or Mettams Pool, you will be amazed at what you can see in a metre deep pool.

Most beaches are patrolled by Surf Lifesavers. Swim within the flags as there can be strong rips and undercurrents.
Apart from Hillarys Boat Harbour, Cottesloe and Scarborough the Perth beaches are generally un-commercial and do not have shops or stalls, so remember to take a drink with you.
On rare occasions a shark is spotted along the coast. A shark spotting plane patrols the coast and will indicate a sighting by waggling its wings. over 5 years ago

My favourite beach is in Busselton but thats not close to the city.

I would probably recommend Cottosloe, although its very busy and not very relaxing.
Otherwise South Beach. It has a great atmosphere. And its perfect to have a BBQ, walk the dog, or relax on the sand about 4 years ago
