Help. I am in Townsville, my friends don't want to rent a car, and apparently it's going to rain. What is there to do? I'm into music, parties, cafes, interesting walks, things that don't involve diving or snorkelling (don't ask), meeting new people. What are my options? Don't say leaving. I'm stuck here.
The things I love to do in Townsville are:
Reef HQ - the world's largest living coral aquarium - no diving or snorkelling required
The Museum of Tropical Queensland
Magnetic Island - heaps to do there
and the fabulous Strand on the foreshore and cafes and restaurants to die for.
Visit the Townsvilleeguide.com/nightlife - heaps to do as well.
It may not rain - even though it is the tropics and the wet season it doesn't always rain. about 10 years ago
Thanks guys - so far I've been out to the island and been to the koala sanctuary, which was very good! Tried out the Townsville nightlife - pretty terrible. After about 10 we weren't allowed in many places as we were respectable but wearing shorts - this is Townsville! Jeans would have given us heat stroke. And the clubs were fairly empty. No small wonder. I wouldn't recommend this place as a travel destination but it has been fun anyway. I'll probably head to reef hq and also the sunday morning markets (in the mall area) today. about 10 years ago
Reef HQ was interesting but very touristy - I highly recommend the massive rockpool at the end of the strand... especially at sunset!! Lots of fun. The markets were pretty lame - I think the best things about townsville are the things you can get for free - much of the commerce / tourist stuff is extremely lame (except for the koala park). Also Juliettes on the strand do great coffee and gelato. about 10 years ago
