I live in Hobart and love driving through the countryside and to the beaches but have seen most of the well known spots and 'touristy' places. I need to be able to go for a day trip from here to some of the lesser known places, maybe just go to a beach for a BBQ on our portable barbie or see somewhere that locals know is a great spot to see.

Saltworks Rd on the East Coast of Tassie. It is the entrance to the Little Swanport River. Nice Beaches, hidden from the main drag. 1/2 hrs past Triabunna, just after the Little Swanport Bridge and Pontypool.

The Tasmann Peninsula is only 90 minutes away and has fantastic views, wonderful beaches like Fortesque Bay, Remarkable Caves, Roaring Beach; great walks to Cape Raul and Cape Huoy. Good food at Mussel Boys or Stewarts Bay Lodge. Not to mention Port Arthur Historic Site and the Saltmines! Only 90minutes from www.ateleven.com.au over 6 years ago

Huonville, the tahune airwalk, and all the south west is pretty much accessible in a day excursion. River paddling on the huon, mild bushwalking, In fact the best trip we did lately was to go to hastings caves, then head further down to cockle creek or reserche bay. Perfect place if its a nice day to go down and have a barbie. Hastings has thermal pools where (if its nice enough) you could have a dip in the pool.
