You can purchase a pay as you go sim card from a vodaphone store - however they require proof of ID (and I'm not sure if you need to be an Australian citizen).

Global Gossip have sell SIM cards for travelers, and you can pick them up in a number of cities where they operate. Check out http://globalgossip.com/mobile/ for more info.

Hope that helps! over 6 years ago

No, you don't have to be Australian citizen. You can by pay as you go (or here in AU is called Pre Paid) in every operator. The best ones are Vodafone and Optus. over 6 years ago

Make sure you but a 'data bundle' with the pre-paid plan otherwise you'll chew through the credit pretty fast checking your email or using the web.

Also if you are travelling with an iPhone make sure it's unlocked! A friend of mine came from the USA recently and his iPhone was locked to AT&T and he couldn't use the pre-paid SIM! over 6 years ago

Ian is right, but if you wanna use web or check email, try Optus (provider) pre paid. If you recharge credit minimum 40AUD then you will have 150MB of datas. over 6 years ago
