I'm taking 3 weeks to explore the coast of Queensland. I'll be driving from Brisbane to Cairns and want some recommendations for cool spots to stop for camping, general merriment, and sights.

Rollingstone is a beautiful little bach-side town just 50k's north of Townsville, definitely worth a visit!!! They have free camping sites right on the beach at Balgal and Acheron and one alongside the Rollingstone Creek. Great spots and the locals are so friendly. over 6 years ago

Also you could travel another 3.5hrs north of cairns (beautiful Mulligan's Highway) and explore the town that tourism forgot... Cooktown!! With its unique, natural beauty Cooktown captures the heart and imagination of all those who set foot in the area. With all sorts of adventures available from exploring secluded beaches and waterfalls, learning a bit about the local indigenous culture with local tours, exploring the cafes and shops that line main street, taking a trip on the Endeavour River to spot a crocodile, dropping a line in down the wharf with the locals or taking a lesson in the history of the place strolling along Webber's Esplanade. This small town has plenty to offer anyone... either with a big taste for adventure or just needing an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life... Cooktown's welcoming spirit will leave you wanting more!! So see you when you get here... over 6 years ago
