Do you need to prove to customs that you have a certain amount of cash before you can enter Australia on a holiday visa?

I always like to have some local currency for any country that I visit but as ATMs are available anywhere in Australia getting cash is no problem. However be aware that when drawing out cash from an ATM that a fee is always charged per transaction. It is usually $5 here in Australia. Check with your own bank. There is a limit to how much cash you can bring into the country. Check with the Australian government web site as to how much you are allowed. It is a large amount and carrying huge amounts of cash could prove risky so I would not recomend carrying more than $1000.00. over 6 years ago
