What are some good places to go on a day trip from Sydney? Can you get to the Blue Mountains in a day? Where else are good places to get away from the city for a day?

Blue Mountains is a great day trip - even better though as an overnight. You can drive, catch a bus - lots of tourist busses leave from down town or catch a train to Katoomba – a little hard to get around though without a car.

    Other good day trips
    Gosford - go by train
Palm Beach - go by ferry and buss
Hunter Valley - need a car

Rent a car and drive up to Palm Beach, walk up the hill to the lighthouse at the top of Barrenjoey Head and get some lunch at the Newport Arms Hotel in Newport - amazing beer garden restaurant out back. Stop at Avalon, Whale and Palm Beaches for a swim (Palm Beach has a surf side and a bay side if you're not much into waves.)

Then turn right at Clareville on your way home and drive out to West Head to see an amazing view of where you've just been and some beautiful bush. over 7 years ago

Drive up to Terrigal and have lunch at the Haven after a nice swim. Have a drink at the Crowne Plaza beer garden or the Terrigal pub. Lots of great Thai restaurants on the main strip.

1 hours drive to get up there. Not good traffic on Friday nights. over 7 years ago

Blue Mountains a must - take two days (it's a world heritage listed area after all!) Best bush walks are at Wentworth Falls (if you take the train, get off at Wentworth Falls and walk down the Darwin Walk - yes, named after Charles Darwin's visit) which is a gorgeous walk in itself (say, 40 minutes) then you end up at a spectacular waterfall and have dozens of other walks, long and short to choose from. If walking is not your think go to gorgeous village of Leura for boutique and crafty shopping and lunch or a coffee. And Katoombah for the three sisters is a must, but a little more "touristy"!!! It's a three hour drive up to Tea Gardens/Nelson's Bay/Port Stephens. Great beaches, very quiet, and you can spot dolphins.

Head south to Bundeena and the national parks for kayaking and hiking. Wollongong is worth a look too for its beaches. over 4 years ago
