Ooo! A controversial question, lol
Depends what you value as a "better" quality.
Little India is BYO, it is cheap and has decent curries. Best and favourite in my opinion but I'm not rating on the best flavoured curries or anything.
The new Indian place in Sandy Bay from what I have heard is a bit soft on their spice and the hottest curry there will only burn a couple of taste buds instead of your whole mouth.
There is an indian place in Battery Point which I have heard people rave about. about 8 years ago
Magic Curries in Battery Point is clear winner in my opinion - find it at 41 Hampden Rd.
I'd say their food is more spicy and authentically flavoured than anywhere else I've been in Hobart - and it's modestly priced. Great location, and service is always on point.

Best places are:
- Tandoor Curry House, Cnr of Harrington and Liverpool
Good selection of curries. This place has been around for years and is Hobart's defacto curry establishment.
- Flavour of India on Elizabeth St in North Hobart.
Curries here are good - lots of texture and flavour. Not very hot so if you like it hot you have to ask.
- Magic Curries in Battery Point.
The CLEAR winner if you want HOT curry. I'm a fan of their 11/10 'dynamite hot' beef vindaloo. It was so hot once that I cried and had to lie down on my floor for 10 minutes in a state of pure curry nirvana. about 8 years ago
Another voice amongst the mix but ...
- Tandoor Palace is new best place for mainstream Indian curries. It's pretty much Tandoor Curry House but with good service (they won't forget your order or serve you stone cold Naan bread *cough*). In terms of taste they're at least on par with Tandoor Curry House. I can't comment on the authenticity, but it tastes awesome to my western taste buds.
- Magic Curries is pretty mediocre. I've only been there three times, but the service/food was always below average. about 8 years ago
I would have to agree with Ian on this one. I have recently been doing the rounds of all the Indian restaurants in the Hobart region and so far Tandoor Curry House has rated the best for flavour. Some other comments below:
Tandoor Curry House - best butter (makhan) chicken and overall winner so far.
Annapurna - best cheese naan by far. Actually has melted cheese inside the bread unlike other cheese naans offered which only sprinkle parmesan on the outside. Not the best tasting curries.
Magic Curries - great Chicken Tikka Masala and a great HOT vindaloo.
Flavour of India - excellent bombay beef. Other curries are nice, but the smell of incense was a bit strong.
Tandoor Palace - great service, nice curries but not as good as the others. Slightly more expensive than the others also. about 8 years ago
I have lived in Bangladeshi communities in London for 20 years, eating curried food daily. I cook or eat curries every day, and have eaten Indian food from all regions of India all over the world, and have had the best and worst....in my humble opinion all the restaurants that have been mooted are generally CRAP.
ALL are universally dumbed down for the oversweetened Hobart palate.
The best food in Hobart ( up there with the best I have had including in India!) is the Taj Palace in North Hobart..BUT, tragically the service is SO bad ( average wait time half an hour) that after a world record 1 and a half hour worldbeating wait on Saturday we have called it a day.
We will only reluctantly get takeway from there when the desperate urge for their Murgh Malai Methi ( a sublime creamy chicken confection flecked with fresh fenugreek leaves) strikes.
Really sad about it as we ate there at least once a week but this was taking the P big time. about 8 years ago
