Does anyone know if its possible at all to catch a ferry to East Timor or Indonesia. Ive done some websearching and it seems like the option is either hitching a ride on a yacht or a freight ship. Unless there is a ferry which I dont know about. Does anyone know how possible it is to hitch a ride, or work on a boat going there? Also does anyone know what might be the best time of year for for doing this?

Check out http://www.findacrew.net/ to search for boats heading across that way.

Although there is no ferry you will find many ways to get across. over 7 years ago

Years ago we tried to do the same without success. Instead we flew to Timor and then island hopped across using local ferries, which is a highly recommended experience. Flores in particular was a stunning island full of excellent experiences. about 6 years ago

You can check out the notice board at the Darwin Sailing Clubs, there's often yachts sailing to timer, java, bali etc looking for crew . You can also check the shipping lines, they always have one or two berths for passengers but its not cheap. over 3 years ago
