Perth is good to learn. Pretty beaches, places to stay, nice bars!
WA has big surf so avoid Margaret River area. over 10 years agoAnswered bywhoissteveanyway via

The Margaret River area is good because it has plenty of surfers, therefore plenty of surf teachers. There are plenty of beaches that do not have big surf, it's not just all big wave stuff like the tournaments at the Margaret River Mouth. over 10 years ago

There's a couple of places that are good to learn to surf.
Lancelin is good or if you want to be closer to Perth you can learn at Scaborough Beach about 20 minutes from the city centre.
If you want to take lessons here's a couple of websites that are worth looking at.
