One of my absolute favourite things in Melbourne is Moonlight Cinema in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It's a great place to take your GF / BF, with spectacular cityscape views of Melbourne.

Unfortunately, it only runs from December 11 - March 15, so you need to be around in Summer.

Enter via Gate D, Birdwood Ave: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Birdwood+Avenue%2C+Melbourne%2C+Australia

Gates open at 7pm, screening at sundown (approx 8:30pm).

Not sure what you're into but I would highly recommend a stroll down Brunswick St in Fitzroy, Smith St in Collingwood and Swan St in Richmond they're rather alternative but all have great cheap food, bars, shopping and nightlife. Bridge Road in Richmond is renowned for its shopping as well. And if you're interested in shopping I would suggest a trip to Queen Victoria Market as well, it's open most days of the week and has everything from fresh food to clothing.

The National Gallery of Victoria always has a good exhibition as does Federation Square. For music and events though just pick up BEAT a free street press magazine- it has everything music/art/theatre wise.

If you're into street art Hosier Lane off Flinders St is amazing. And as for nightlife in the CBD.. all the good places are impossible to find, ie: they're all hidden away in the many many laneways around the centre. You're best bet in that regard is to make friends! AC/DC Lane of Flinders Lane has some amazing bars though.

Hope that helps! over 7 years ago
