Derby's a bit off the beaten track, flights to Broome seem expensive, and it seems that there's limited public transport up that way. We're possibly heading up there for a week or two some time in the next 12 months, budget allowing.

The cheapest method to get to Derby from Perth is via Greyhound bus but even then that costs around $500 return per adult and takes over 24 hrs. Why not consider hiring a car and driving, you will get to see heaps along the way and can stop when you like to let the kids have a break. Personally, I would delay the trip until I'd saved enough money for the flights - it's a looooong way.

    Hi Roy,
I'd be interested to know if you made it to Derby? I spent a couple of weeks in and around Broome and there was quite a bit to keep kids entertained (great beach, kite flying, shops, croc park etc). However, we also drove through Derby and found it very depressing... not on the top of my holiday list to take the kids. I'm interested to know your experience? about 6 years ago
