You haven't really specified how far out of Hobart you're willing to travel.

If you don't mind travelling for a couple of hours, head to someplace like Bicheno. That would be my personal preference - not for surfing, but for walking, lazing around and a bit of swimming, it's lovely.

Closer to Hobart, Kingston Beach is popular enough and only 16 or so minutes from Hobart.

Clifton Beach is where all the surfers go. If you don't care so much for good surf, a South Arm's beaches are also quite pleasant and you get to see Hobart from the other side of the river while you're at it.

Or, you could head to Bruny Island for a drive and have a bit of a swim while you're at it. almost 7 years ago

There are lots of places on the East Coast that are amazing. Bingalong Bay is a great place. The beaches close by are really great and you can find secluded areas or busy friendly areas with lots of other friendly people. almost 7 years ago

Friendly Beaches close to Coles Bay has the most pristine white sand ever! It's a national park though and will require you to buy a pass almost 7 years ago

You must head to the NSW Central Coast and check out some of Australia most spectacular beaches there. Have a look at http://www.bookcentralcoast.com.au/beaches

Hope you get to enjoy them.!

Honeymoon bay which is one of the beaches on the way into Coles Bay is great - its a smaller cove so nice and sheltered and a big rocky outcrop on one side which is nice to lie on and get really warm :)

If you want to swim rather than surf I would steer clear of ocean beaches as they are a bit colder... almost 7 years ago
