The question is very vague -- is it about which TO VISIT (answer: both, they are close, take the bus from one to the other)?

Where TO STAY? Olinda is more touristic and historical, usually preferred by tourists. Recife has more city life, you see more from the actual reality of a modern brazilian metropolis.

But, most of all, it depends very much on WHERE INSIDE one of these cities, and on the PURPOSE of your visit. A suburb of Olinda is not very recommended for a tourist, and a poorer neighborhood of Recife is socially and politically more interesting than the colonial pittoresque center of Olinda. over 6 years ago

They're very different cities. You shoud visit both because they're very close. The beaches in olinda are not very good, and even boa viagem, a beautiful beach in recife, being danger because in some points you can be attacked by a shark, you have many safe places to enjoy the sea...just ask for the informations. In olinda and recife it's also interesting to visit the forts and in olinda Maria Farina beach. over 6 years ago
