I'll be arriving in Saigon on the 5th, on the 6th i can fly out to either Siem Reap or Phnom Pen and spend 4-5 days there before i have to back in Saigon for my flight back home. I'm buy myself and would love to tag along or be included in a tour group of some sort, but i don't want to pay upwards of US$500.00 for the pleasure :D

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!!

Many thanks

No real need to do a tour - it is a very common route.

With five days you could do something like get the bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh (around $10-15, takes most of the day). Overnight there, next day see Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields and fit a few cold ones in by the river. Next morning get the boat up to Siem Reap ($35ish) which gets you into SR mid afternoon. Get a single-day Angkor pass that afternoon which gives you free admission to the park after 5pm (good for sunset). Next day all day within the main park. Last day visit the stilted villages down on Tonle Sap lake - eg Kompong Khleang and grab a late afternoon flight back to Saigon.

See - no need for a tour ;-)

With more time, I'd suggest bus from Saigon to Chau Doc in the Mekong Delta, overnight there, then speedboat up to Phnom Penh -- it's a cracking trip -- but doesn't really fit into a five day excursion. over 6 years ago

Air asia is amazingly cheap.Try it, is worthy. For me ANg kor is amazing, one of the best places I ever been, but unless you are an archeologist, one day is enought. If you go at 16:30 to the main entrance and buy the ticket for the next day, they let you go in to see the sun set.
The next day, wake up very early rent a bike the day before and go to se sunrise to a temple off the beaten truck, any one: The Experience is amazing, but important to run away of the main temples packed of chinese and taiwanese cameras.
Check the mine museum just out of the entry!!!! over 6 years ago
