How can I do volunteer work in Cambodia?

How do you qualify to do volunteer work? Do you have a medical license, teaching experience, done work with NGOs abroad, for example? If you are interested in a serious volunteering stint, then a lot of places will want yo to commit long-term, starting with a year or so. about 3 years ago

Hi Jaidev,

I know you posted this a while ago, but if you're still interested in socially responsible travel/volunteerism in Cambodia, you should check out friendshipwithcambodia.org. They offer tours in which trip participants eat in restaurants that are training programs for former street children, visit fair-trade craft shops that employ landmine survivors, and stay in locally-owned hotels that prohibit sex tourism. In addition to visiting the ancient temples of Angkor Wat and the floating villages of the Tonle Sap lake, trip participants spend time in a rural village and see Friendship with Cambodia’s humanitarian projects.

They also publish a socially responsible travel guide: http://www.friendshipwithcambodia.org/programs-education.php. It's really helpful, and each recommended location has been thoroughly examined for ethical practices.

There is this orphanage called New Hope for Cambodian Children. Look them up. They'll give you some volunteer work. I have been there. It is run by two foreigners. almost 2 years ago

@Simone: The travel guide is about $15US. I'm not sure about the trip. I'd recommend contacting Friendship with Cambodia directly to find out more.

Just heard about this charity in Cambodia - http://www.lovecambodia.co.uk/visit_volunteer.php. It is being run by a girl from the UK to support the orphaned children of Cambodia almost 2 years ago

I'm heading to Cambodia as a volunteer in just a few hours. I'll be volunteering with Awareness Cambodia.. they have an orphanage and a clinic that are open to volunteers. :) almost 2 years ago
