Heading to the beach area in August and am looking for your tried and tested recommendations. Would prefer somewhere with good but basic accommodation, bars/cafes/restaurant within walking distance and not a lot else really. If there is an option to fish that would be great, otherwise a beach to lie on, and perhaps an option to do some local visits - perhaps by bike or something? Would like the accommodation to have electricity. We love Koh Phangan (Star Huts) and would like something similar. Not looking for heavy nightlife or much entertainment and this is a definite relaxing holiday rather than a do-ing holiday. Ta.

I stayed at Coaster's on Serendipity Beach in Sihanoukville. Spent 4 days there last December. I think you may be disappointed if you are expecting clear seas & hoppin' nightlife as in Thailand, but Sihanoukville is definitely a nice place to chill out for a few days if you've been in the country a couple weeks. There are a lot of places to dine and little bars on the beach (Serendipity Beach as well as Independence Beach & Victory Beach). Coaster's has amazing food and I ate there several times during my stay. Dunno about fishing but you could ask the guesthouse guys. A lot of folks have boats there... over 7 years ago

I agree with Cocodrilo - Serendipity Beach in Sihanoukville is probably your best bet. However, we also stayed in Kep (a bit further down the coast, past Kampot, and had a fantastic NYE. But, and it's a big BUT... don't be expecting golden white beaches. almost 7 years ago
