    No, you can legally drive in America with an EU passport. As long as you are a tourist. If a legal resident then you would need a drivers license. The only stipulation you are likely to require at a rental car place is verification of age and proof that your insurance will cover the rental car. Don't worry though if it won't you will just have to pay a small fee for temporary insurance issued by the rental car company. Have fun and make sure you have basic knowledge of the traffic rules, laws, and MPH not KPH! about 3 years ago

    To further clarify, international drivers licenses are just for the ease of translation. I have a lot of experience with this issue and the same is true for Americans in Europe. All we need is a passport and our valid US state license. about 3 years ago
