What is the best way to insure yourself for 12 months in Canada, but 6/7 months of that will be for a ski season?
Have been looking for insurance that will cover 12 months in Canada but 6/7 months of that will be for a ski season so will need winter sports cover (skiing). But don't want to have to pay for 12 months winter sports cover when we won't be using it.
Will we have to buy 2 separate insurance policies - one for 12 months in Canada and then one for 6 months winter sports? Can't seem to find any info anywhere or any companies that have any suggestions on the best thing to do so any help would be appreciated.
Hi Bonclements,Kellie here from Worldnomads.com
As it's possible to buy a policy while already travelling, you can either buy a policy for the entire 12 month period which includes winter sports cover OR your other option is to buy two separate consecutive policies with one including winters sports cover (for 6/7 months of the ski season ) and the other excluding winter sports cover for the remaining time you are in Canada when the ski season is over.Just be sure to check that buying two policies is more economical than buying just the one for the entire trip.
When buying a new policy while already travelling, just be sure to be aware of the conditions relating to the waiting periods.

I would suggest Travelance since you can get coverage for 18 months straight and all their plans include coverage for sports related injuries:
Since the person is going to Canada it would make sense to apply for coverage from a Canadian Insurance company. Some benefits of going with local insurance providers include:
Easier to file a claim and receive your money back
Canadian insurers mostly set up direct billing so that you don't have to pay out of your pocket (as is the case with backpackers insurance)
Comprehensive coverage and benefits (sports and all kinds of work included)
Local branches where you can come and speak with a representative
Sports related injuries are covered which makes it perfect for young people who want to enjoy their time in Canada.
