I am hoping to travel to China in July 2012 with my mum. What are some recommended experiences? What cities are the most authentic?
We are tossing up between these two itineraries:
China Getaway (Sample an exotic treat from a street vendor, See the sun rise over the Great Wall of China, Join the hustle and bustle of busy Beijing, Explore the walled city of Pingyao, Visit China and see modern Shanghai, Sip tea by a canal in charming Xitang, Discover the Muslim Quarter of Xi'an) and Silk Road Train (Explore the ancient wonders of Beijing, See the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an, Embark on one of the world's most famous rail journeys, Visit remote villages in Turpan, Admire the colours of diverse landscapes, Pick up a bargain at the colourful Kashgar bazaar)
Don't try to cover too much in one trip, as you'll miss much of the authenticity you ate looking for. Depending on the time frame, but if it's your first trip, must hit the prime stops: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Long and terra-cotta in Xian. Personally, I loved Xinjiang and the Turpan/Kashgar region, very different side of China. about 7 years ago
I agree. China is a rather big country and you must choose for a first trip something like following route: Beijing (Great Wall, Forbidden City and Summer Palace), Xi'an (Terracotta Warriors), Shanghai with trips to Suzhou and Hangzhou). It will take 10-12 days. about 7 years ago
