China just tightened their airport security and they say that 50% of people get searched now.
I would prefer not to be in that 50%
What are you tips on reducing that likelyhood?

No tips or tricks, just pay attention to the obvious. Dress normal or better yet, dress like a business professional. Act normal and have confidence in yourself when you walk and do things inside the airport. Try not to look too creepy or like a drug dealer or hippie. Remember to lose the shades. Good luck. about 5 years ago

In my experience, being searched is very random but is usually rooted, sadly, in ethnicity. You would stand more chance of being searched as an african american coming off a flight at Heathrow from say Jamaica than if you were a white, female with her family on the same flight.

The security requirements for each country vary and to be honest, if I get stopped, then so be it. It happens rarely for me - caucasian, female, 40's - and it definitely has not mattered how I am dressed, what flight I have been on or which country I am coming from/going to.

In this day and age, security has been increased for all our safety and for that, if I got stopped every single time (as my muslim, darker skinned, Turkish husband does) then I might get frustrated, but they are doing a vital job and its part and parcel of travelling. about 5 years ago

Searching in China is not nearly as severe as America. All they basically do is open up a bag and look through it. They don't feel you up. They mostly have dogs checking for the really bad contraband. about 5 years ago
