Where in Europe do I begin?

over 4 years ago about Europe

I am a first time solo traveler, haven't done much traveling other than to Mexico and around a few of the states. I am from a small town in WisconsinUS and it has been a dream of mine to backpack through Europe forever! I am taking some time off of school to figure out exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life, so I figured now if a perfect opportunity to discover the world and along the way maybe figure out what I want to do with my future. I have been researching and renting books to give me more information and where to begin planning my trip. I would like to go sometime next September wishfully sooner but money is my main barrier right now. I would like to visit UK, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, and Netherlands. I realize that is a lot of places but I'm not set on any specific ones yet. As a 19 year old female my friends tell me I'm crazy for wanting to do this by myself which make me feel nervous. Is it okay that I will be traveling alone with not much experience? Where should I begin? HELP!!!

i can also reccommend hospitalityclub.org or couchsurfing.
Europe is safe, i dont think you will have many problems on your way. When you dont have so much experience, i would start with planning.
Buy e.g. lonely planet-europe, register yourself on pages i've mentioned. Contact people in coutries you want to travel to, ask for a few days accomodation or for help with finding hostel, ask for town-sightseeing.
You have to plan how much days you want to spend in countries and according to this plan your trip. Do you want to see cities, castles (must have!), old towns, or countryside, nature..?
Will you go by plane, trains, buses, by car? Look at kayak.com, wizzair.com, ryanair.com, flyniki.com - here youll find your plane connections between european cities. (for example, the journey from UK London to Munich, Germany takes approx. 12horus.) You can also plan your trip via googlemaps.

I think you have to consider all the facts and your possibilities. But when you are sure that you want it, go for it. 100%.

Wish you the best ;) over 4 years ago
