my friend and i have a stopover in athens for 6 days, we want to get to some nice beaches and some a little time to relax before our next leg of the trip. We fly in and out of athens, and like most people we are on a budget! Any recommendations for where we should go/stay/do? We will be there in May! Thanks!
Hi!!! My name is Athena and I'm Greek....I live in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, the second biggest city...My advice to you is to visit one or two islands... Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Ios, Syros... these are some nice choices.... over 7 years agoAnswered by Athena Saravelou via WorldNomads.com
if you come to Greece, you should visit Meteora and Cape Sounion (Poseidon Temple). Meteora is amazing and Cape Sounion is really nice, people is going there to see the sunset that is incredible.
These are my pics, hope you like them.
Avoid Athens, It is not a nice city, it´s crazy... I would just visit the Acropoli and Plaka. You can also go to Licaveto´s hill where you will see an incredible view of the city.
I´ve never been in Santorini but everybody is saying that is amazing but expensive. The beaches are really nice, it is not difficult to find a good one.
You have one island close to Athens called Agistri that someone told me that is really nice to relax and not so expensive. it is about 40 min by boat 25€ return. Santorini is around 100 € boat or flight and I think 5 or 6 hours trip. I am not sure.
Close to Agitri, you can find Aegena with archeological plcs and temple of Efea.
Any help, just let me know.

Rhodes is a beautiful island but not as close as many. Many historical things to see if you are into medieval history and some nice beaches. The old town is beautiful. I was there about 5 years ago in May. The weather was perfect and found it was much cheaper than Athens if you are on a budget. It's great stop over if you are heading to Turkey (for future planning). I have heard great things about Santorini as well...it's a little closer to Athens. Hope that helps some :) over 7 years agoAnswered by farflungistan via WorldNomads.com
6 Days is too long in Athens. you can see all you need to see in 2 days, max. I've many times and my trip last summer was miserable. The city is filthy, and there is this tension you can't help but notice. Take a ferry to an island and chill, but stay away from the more touristy islands, too expensive and crowded. about 7 years ago
