I am retiring to live in central america. I probably don't Need to learn Spanish because I am going to live in Jamaica.
As I plan to travel around, I would really like to learn Spanish.
Some of my friends suggested Guatemala is a great place to do it.
Antigua has a number of renowned Spanish schools - it's one of the towns main sources of income.
I spent a couple of months there staying with a family for the fully immersive experience and learnt very rapidly, but I guess you could just as easily take an apartment relatively cheaply. It's also a very pleasant place to visit.

I'd agree, Antigua is a beautiful town to locate yourself in. I've only been there, not learnt Spanish there, but I know of this web site that prove useful: http://www.transitionsabroad.com/publications/magazine/0505/learn_spanish_in_antigua_guatemala.shtml
PS - take care of your personal safety in Guatemala, there are bandits and muggings aplenty. Personally, I nearly got kidnapped on leaving a hospital at 3am, but that was 12 years ago ... and it's only got worse apparently! almost 11 years ago
