So it seems that Capital One is the best credit card for global travel, but what about Bank ATM/Debit Cards? I still don't have a clear list of competitive banks. Possible charges: 1. Your bank charges a fee for using out of network ATM 2. Your bank charges you an exchange rate fee 3. ATM machine charges you a fee Is there a good resource that shows all competing banks and their charges? Anyone have recommendations for good ATM/Debit Cards for traveling to Central & South America?
Any card with the little symbols will work. (Cirrus, Star, Plus...all good here) Guatemala up until recently had no fees, now Banco Industrial is the best option with only a $2.00 dollar fee. 5B is a reliable ATM machine, bur charges $3.00 dollars.
Visa cards are the most widely accepted of all the credit cards. Overall, you should not have much problem taking out money. over 5 years agoAnswered by Guatemalan expat via Travellr.com
It's true G&T Continental is the best option, because you can use the ATM Guatemala 5B!! over 2 years agoAnswered by Henry via Travellr.com
I can verify that Banco Industrial Guatemala steals money and is not a good option to use at all. After they had me waste my time with customer service they told me they have to verify the transaction as if I don't know that the ATM shorted me Q400, about $50. They own the system and you can't report it to anyone which they love. So here I am tellinig all to beware when using the Banco Industrial Guatemala atm services. They do and will steal from you as I have been informed of several incidents of this type which indicates that this lousy guatemalan bank continues to perpetuate this sort of thievery against users of their system.
