Mmmm ... a full tour? Years I should think. That's if you could suffer India for that long. Have a look at the suggested itineraries on World Nomads as a start: here is one called 'The best of India' http://adventures.worldnomads.com/destination/99/itinerary/80.aspx although I reckon that would take weeks or even months to do properly.

Personally, I'd pick Varanasi as a significant highlight. over 8 years ago

Years for sure if you plan to visit each state. It depends on the amount of time and money you want to spend. A quick north to south (including western India) will take you at least 4 months. The north east is a bit secluded when it comes to transportation so you might have to keep that for later. over 6 years ago

When planning a trip to India, being one of the seven Indian holy cities, Mathura Agra is considered a vital pilgrimage center for the Hindu. Owing to the spiritual significance of the place worldwide, Agra tour and Mathura tour gives tourists abundant pleasure and satisfaction. Mathura tourism combines the three towns of Agra Vrindavan and Mathura to bring out a life time experience for the guests. The Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple is one of most important Mathura tourist attractions. You can also enjoy Mathura tour by paying a visit to Taj Mahal, the marble mausoleum which was put up in the sixteenth century by Shah Jahan, a Mughal emperor, Fatepur Sikri, Agra Fort and Mahal.

Yeh as everyone else said, it would take a long time to see everywhere in India. But I'd say 4 weeks would be perfect. After that you'll probably start to get over it. I traveled from Delhi to Chennai via Goa in just over 3. I didn't feel that I needed much more time than that.

PS - Goa is in a different world the rest of India. If you feel like you've had too much or you need a 'break', then head there. You will find a lot of your home comforts there, other travellers, licensed bars and clean restaurants. over 4 years ago

It depends how many places you want to visit and what activities you would like to do... So it is hard to define the exact time frame of all over India tour. But Having some interest in adventure tourism and activities including the full India tour then more than 3 months will also not be enough and slip out in your hand like the sand. Just have fun of India tour whenever you like..

When I was working with a travel organisation, we had a client do North, West and bit of East in four months.. If one only touches fewer cities, I think one can cover NSEW in that time.. So try and figure our which cities/towns/region interest you the most.. I am also accounting for travel by air here...

If you, however, wish to experience the culture and the land in depth, you should come with only a one way ticket.. :) almost 4 years ago
