Hi, we have regularly headed to Bali with our kids from a very young age and its the perfect place for a rest, an exotic escape and a family holiday.
We have stayed all over but probably everywhere except Kuta: Ubud is easy, out East is very pleasant and up north coast and north west too.
Loads of nice places to stay and eat and the people are terrific with young families.
If you go to Udud and head out to see one of the local dances of an evening, this place is great, even with very young children, although the ending is both pretty scary for them and pretty exciting too!
It's usually on a FRIDAY night there is only one Kecak dance worth seeing and that is at the Pura Delem temple on the road between Ubud and Campuan: they are a professional troupe and their chanting, dance and fire trance dance is simply miles better than anywhere else.
Hope this helps and have a great trip.

Bali is a wonderful spot for all ages.
Simon has highlighted some great things to do as family in Bali. Probably the best thing just like the Fijians the Balinese are a fantastic with kids, its a wonderful trait.
When it comes to booking accommodation the major hotels are well set up for families, however if you are keen to look at the private villa option. Just be mindful of villas that have open swimming pools with limited security around the pool area. You don't want to be worrying 24/7 about toddlers that can't swim, your on holidays as well!.
Deb who writes for our blog littlenomads.com has provided some great tips which may be useful if trying to choose a resort with toddlers and little ones. http://littlenomads.com/best-family/10-steps-to-choosing-the-right-family-resort/
Donna all the best and hope you find you ideal spot for the children in Bali.
