I'd like to visit a friend working in Jakarta this spring, but I'd also like to see a bit more of the country when I go. What are some hotspots to visit? And how easy will it be for me to get around, particularly as a single female traveler?

The best way to get around Bali is to hire a driver for the day! Very cheap equiv to about 10-15 aud for a whole day of driving...They even wait for you whilst you are out and about seeing the sights. Ulluwatu is great for Temples, Jimbaryn Bay is great for water sports and Ubud is great for more temples..and crazy monkeys.. You can do activities like whitewater rafting, parasailing, day tours for next to nothing so make the most of it and live like a queen whilst you are there!! almost 8 years ago

    • The best way to get around Bali is to rent a scooter/motorbike you're missing a lot if you go by car - and you don't need a driving license for riding a scooter. pax about 6 years ago

More specifically, the village of Ubud on Bali and its surrounds is a must. And to answer the other half of your question, Indonesia consists of 13,000 islands with lots of different religions and cultures. In some places you'll be fine, in others, you'll have to take a little more care. I would suggest you do some reading as to how to dress and behave in public so as not to cause any unintended offence. over 7 years ago
