i want to stay at a bnb in tuscany this september. Im overwhelmed with where to stay. What towns should i look into??
we will be driving from rome and eventually be flying out from bologna....i was thinking of somewhere between the two...maybe somwhere outside of florence, but more than just a 10 min drive. id rather be further from a big city that closer. My ideal surroundings would be green hills and vinyards away from any hustle and bustle with a small town nearby with great food and simple shopping (somthing we could walk to or ride a bike to for the day) I love how Fiesole looks (esp the ruins) but i dnt want to see a big city in the distance. cortona looks nice but is it too touristy? Help! Its overwhelming.
I lived in Cortona for about a month during my gap year working. It's a really nice area with access to a lot of other small towns by train. I lived with the couple that owns italytrail.com. It's a little outside Cortona, but easy enough to hike to in an hour or take a bus up there. I was there in November and December, so it wasn't so busy, but in September, I think Italy itself is more busy than at other times during the year. I still imagine Cortona is more busy during the day and you'd enjoy yourself at night or in the early morning in Cortona when the day tourists are gone. about 5 years ago
