Is the radiation level in Tokyo safe for a 2-year-old (Sept 2012)? What about the food & water supplies?
I'm planning a holiday in Tokyo next month. We'll be there for 6 weeks. Is it safe to bring along my toddler?
There is normal background radiation in Tokyo now, which is lower than many other cities. Here are some latest measurements from Sept 16 to 18 2012:
Tokyo 0.046 microSieverts/hr
The average global background radiation level is 0.27
The average background radiation level at cruising altitude in an aircraft is 2.7 (that's 50 times higher than Tokyo).
The Japanese government has a food safety monitoring system in place which my government (Australia) says is world standard.
It's up to you to decide what level of radiation is acceptable to you and your family, but personally I'd have no qualms taking ny two year old to Tokyo right now. almost 6 years ago
It's NOT safe at all.
Do not trust Japanese's government. They have lied.
The radiation level in Tokyo is below average of the world, but obviously it increased after the Fukushima nuclear plant accident.
Why? Because of contamination by Cs137 , etc.
