Hi guys,

I'm heading to Japan this weekend with a group of friends and I've heard that when you visit an Onsen in Japan, it's customary to go nude. Is this true?

In most cases you do. I lived there for two years and I have written about the subject. There are a few co-ed outdoor places that require swimsuits, but the best are nude and gender segragated. It's uncomfortable for maybe the first two minutes then you realize no one cares. The experiance is so relaxing you won't be worried about a thing. Just make sure to suds up and rinse well like the Japanese before you soak. about 1 month ago

It's also true that people with tattoos are banned at most public baths and onsen, in case you or any of your friends have tattoos. about 1 month ago
