    Hey John,

Tokyo is usually cold but not freezing in January. By cold I mean around 1 - 5 degrees during the day with some days being warmer. However, with the world weather as it is at the moment, patterns are changing and things are not as regular as they once were!

For an overview of Tokyo weather see http://www.tokyotopia.com/tokyo-climate.html and http://www.tokyotopia.com/tokyo-weather.html

Kyoto and Osaka will be very similar. Hope it helps : ) almost 6 years ago

In winter, it is much colder in Kyoto than in Osaka. You may experience snowfalls in Kyoto, which makes traditional temples beautiful scenery. over 5 years ago

Kyoto is the coldest, Osaka is little warmer and Tokyo is the warmest in winter due to location and warm oceanic currents. In summer Kyoto is the hottest one, while Tokyo and Osaka are not much different. over 3 years ago
