planning on spending time at disneyland with family is everything running close to normal? coming in may should we avoid coming all together? spending half of our trip in tokyo are we able to travel around easily? media is saying food is low in shop in tokyo. How bad is the situation in tokyo
Sorry to disappoint you, but Tokyo Disneyland is currently closed. We (and our young family) were due to land in Tokyo next week and have just moved our tickets to Osaka. This wasn't much to do with the nuclear issues they are having, but more to do with the logistics of travel and food: 6 hours to get from Tokyo to Narita which is double normal for example.
There is also a risk of significant new quakes and water and power can be intermittent.
There is much to enjoy in japan and we'll spend our time exploring the west. And if you haven't been to Kyoto in Spring it is one of the great wonders of the world!
Hope that helps about 8 years ago
Can I add to that.... have just heard from a contact in Tokyo who says the queue at the petrol/gas station to get fuel for a car is 5 hours long (minimum).
re Tokyo Disneyland... at the time of the quake (March 14th) they said they'd be closed for at least 10 days before making any decision on re-opening. about 8 years ago
according to Tokyo Disneyland website today(23rd March) there is no clear prospect of reopening at the moment. One of the problems is the land liquified caused by the major earthquake. It was built on reclaimed land and the town where the Disneyland is still suffering from damaged infrastructure and lack of water. Currently Mickey is busy fundraising.
Another problem is lack of constant power supply. Having lost major power supplies (the nukes), the all train lines and factories, shops, private homes are subjected to daily planned blackouts and volunteerily power saving. This is going to be a long term affair.
If your purpose of the trip is to enjoy the Disneyland, sophisticated shopping and efficient services in Tokyo, I recommend not to visit Tokyo for a while. How about Osaka instead? It's different but working as normal. about 8 years ago
Tokyo Disneyland just reopened today. about 8 years agoAnswered by SugarRos via WorldNomads.com
I too am considering a trip to Tokyo Disneyland in 2 weeks (25 May 2011).
Have 2 little girls that are 5 years old and am wondering if it's 'safe' for kids.
Have been told to avoid bringing my kids to Tokyo Disneyland cos it's not safe, where Food, Radiation, etc. are concerned.
To go or Not to go ???
Any comments or recommendations would be truly appreciated.
