Just got back from a trip to Jordan & Egypt. Visited Petra - was lovely. Definitely go early in the morning before the tour groups hit around midday. Take the donkey (or walk) up to the Temple, beautiful view of the surrounding land. Also, check out the desert in Jordan - Wadi Rum. There's sand of different colours, interesting Bedouin (that's the nomadic tribe that used to wander there) culture & food.
I loved Jordan, the people were great. almost 10 years ago
aside from what luchinko mentioned ... you can hit the Northern part of Jordan .. definitly Amman the capital should be on the list and of course you will hit it as you will arrive to the airport there .. amazing nightlife .. in addition to Jerash - the only well preserved Roman city out of Italy - and one of the Decapolis city - that is a leauge of 10 cities during the Roman time in the area, where 7 pf these 10 are in Jordan and you can visit Um Qais as well ..
Deser Castles .. standalone castles in the middle of desert .. soemthing you can really see .. or even you can enjoy a day or an overnight at one of the natural reserves all over the country .. you can check the Wild Jordan / RSCN website ..
And of course you should not miss the experience of the lowest point on Earth ... the Dead Sea ... experience the luxerious five stars hotels and resorts and pamper yourself with the treatments in the one od the best spas in the area ..
lots of things to do and to see ...
hope that was helpful ..
