May is usually a rainy month in Kenya but on the flip side Mombasa hotel rates are their lowest. I've been to the coast in May and it was fine - no crowds, the occasional daily rain showers, and not as humid. If you are considering staying at a hotel, check to make sure that the hotel is open. Some hotels close for maintenance until June. almost 8 years ago
Suirvale, make sure you check government travel advisories for kenya. I know the Mombasa coast is not included in the trouble the kenyans are having with Somali-based insurgents, but there's a higher than usual threat of terror attack in kenya at the moment.

Check with your tour provider and accommodation about the latest situation, and ask them about what security precautions they have in place. There may be nothing to worry about, but best to check.
