    Credit cards such as American Express, VISA and Master Card are widely accepted. nOTE-The official currency in Kenya is the Kenya shilling and Tanzania, Tanzanian Shillings. Visitors to East Africa can change foreign currency at banks or authorized hotels and Bureau. US $ Dollar and other international currencies are also acceptable. over 7 years ago

    i would argue that depending on how/where you are travelling, you will have trouble with mastercard and amex. visa is the most widely used, and i recommend that if you do not have visa, you check out the locations of stanbic atms, they are a south african bank and accept mastercard. US$ and Euro or UK pounds would probably be the best currencies to carry to exchange. travellers cheques are all but useless. over 7 years ago
