Hopefully you'll be there for the Schueberfouer, the massive Luxembourg-city funfair, it's on from 19 August to 7 September on the Glacis car park.

See the notre damme, grund, casemates and the duke's palace.
Friday and Saturday evening you can go out in Grund (or Clausen for youngsters), Sunday there's nice branch in Neumunstere with jazz concerts. about 5 years ago

I would take a walk around the old town and Clausen (chocolate box pretty). Visit the Casemates and Notre Dame cathedral (if that's your thing). Go then see a few museums - the Lux History Museum, check out contemporary art at Casino Luxembourg and MUDAM (and adjoining Fortress Museum Dräi Eechelen). Eat at a michelin starred restaurant or two. If you go in summer, go up to Vianden Castle and ride the cable car, or somewhere like Echtenach which is pretty and has an Abbey, churches and a picturesque market square which hosts a small brocante on occasional Sundays. Go out east to the Moselle area and sample some Cremant (it's essentially Champagne and really very good). Go to a concert or play at the Philarmonie or National Theatre, and then head for Clausen for a convivial and boozy night in the picturesque old town. Stay at hip hotel Melia in Kirchberg. I write a blog and hardly ever get to do these things because I have young children (!) but that's what I would do if I had the time..we try to get out and about as much as possible however and there's some ideas for things to do with kids.
